Brycen's Story

Brycen has Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as Brittle Bone Disease. He has broken 31 bones, ranging from his femur bone, to his ankles, hands, collar bone, and fingers.

He started breaking bones when he was 15 months old and averages a break every 4 to 5 months. Brycen broke his femur at 20 months old, which caused it to bow as it healed. We recently learned that there is a treatment for his bone disease, called Pamidronate. It is an IV infusion that is done every 3 months for 3 days, 4 to 6 hours a day. This infusion helps make the bones more dense. The doctors at Duke University said that he will need this treatment for the rest of his life. As he reaches adulthood, the infusions will only be once a year.

Brycen is one tough little boy. He never cries when he breaks a bone, unless it's a major break. There is a lot that Brycen can't do, but we still let him be a little boy. He loves to play with his younger sister. He loves fishing, hunting, and riding his bike. His favorite wild animals are panthers, lions, bears and deer.

“Brycen said thank you – he loves it!”
