Paislee's Story
On June 6, 2020 I took Paislee to the emergency room because she had developed a high fever and was complaining of abdominal pain. Within a short time they were transferring us to Cook Children Hospital in Fort Worth.
After several tests they felt pretty confident that they had a diagnosis. Paislee was scheduled for a bone marrow biopsy the next day to confirm the diagnosis of leukemia. With that confirmed they put in her port and immediately to start her treatment. The doctors were 99.99% sure it was Leukemia as they could see the cancer cells in her blood. The next day our sweet Paislee was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Words cannot begin to express our thoughts and feelings at this time. The shock was staggering and our hearts were broken.
Cook Children's Hospital is one of 5 in the nation that is part of a St. Jude's trial treatment program that Paislee was able to be a part of. She started treatment the very next day. She has made it through induction (6 weeks) and consolidation (8 weeks). She is 21 weeks into 120 weeks of continuation. She has had to receive blood and blood products, she has had several inpatient admissions to the hospital for some of the stronger chemo treatments and she goes weekly to the clinic for her labs and chemo.
She has had some challenges for sure but overall we thank God daily for her strength and resilience on this journey. Her end of treatment is expected to be January 2023. She is hopeful to start Pre-K this coming fall, and everyday we try to allow her to enjoy as much of a normal childhood as possible, while fighting cancer!
"The quilt is so beautiful. Paislee loves it! We sincerely thank you all for the time spent in making such a thoughtful gift. It will no doubt bring her comfort on the hard days and make her smile on the good days!"
