Zoey's Journey
“Heart Warrior Zoey”
At 20 weeks, mom Michelle had a typical anatomy scan. The doctors noticed that something was not quite right with the baby’s heart. An echocardiogram was ordered and it was determined that Zoey had hypoplastic right heart syndrome (HRHS) - a rare congenital heart defect where the right side of the heart is underdeveloped. This results in reduced blood flow to the lungs and oxygen levels.
Zoey had her first heart surgery at 7 days old and her second at 5 months old. She will have her third heart surgery on May 6, 2025. Zoey is now 3 years old and going to pre-school. She loves school and is a very active and happy child.
