Georgette's Journey
When my older daughter was born we found out she was a carrier for Cystic Fibrosis (CF). My husband and I both got tested and found out we were both carriers of the CF mutation. When I got pregnant with GiGi we decided to get an amniocentesis, we found out in October of 2020 that she had CF.
GiGi was born screaming and healthy in January of 2021. We were lucky she had no complications. GiGi struggled to gain weight; she was diagnosed with failure to thrive; she was hospitalized at the end of February for it. We struggled to gain weight during March. When her CF team saw her at the beginning of April, it was decided to hospitalize her again. This time she got discharged with a new accessory, a G-tube. The rest of the year she spent getting G-tube feeds at night and bottles during the day along with chest physiotherapy and nebulizer treatments.
After GiGi’s first year she has been relatively healthy. She is now on the miracle called Trikafta. She is a regular little toddler other than the meds, chest physiotherapy and nebulizer treatments twice a day. She is a sweet and healthy three year old, she goes to preschool and loves playing with her sister and her “babies” doll. She brings so much love and joy to the family.
