Rylynn's Journey

After a preschool eye exam, our 4-year-old daughter, Rylynn, showed signs of Horner's syndrome (drooping eyelid). We scheduled an appointment with an ophthalmologist and expected the outcome to be glasses, or even just something that she would have to live with. As parents, we have had other health issues with our children that resolved themselves, and naively thought this could be similar. But after the ophthalmologist visit, our world has been flipped upside down.

The doctors rallied together and rushed an MRI that discovered a mass in her neck and chest. I cannot explain the feeling of hearing that news. After more testing she was diagnosed with a high-risk neuroblastoma. The ultimate nightmare…..childhood cancer. It would be more likely to win the lottery. As the doctors tried to explain that there’s no known cause of a neuroblastoma, all you see is the blissful ignorance of your daughter who is tugging at your pant leg to play.

Rylynn is the middle child, the rock-n-roll princess who begs to wear her Disney princess dresses before battling her older brother. Quick as a whip and with a chip on her shoulder, she always makes her presence known. She is the tough cookie every dad wishes for, and the sweet, angelic princess any mom would cherish.

We started chemo treatment as suggested by the doctors, and she took it like a champ! We are so hopeful; if any child CAN do this, it’s her! She is a fighter, a survivor, and a girl on a mission!

We just want the best for our daughter, and we hope with some help she can be a success story! Thank you for taking the time to read and consider helping out our family.
