Hayden's Story

Hayden was always a very happy, loving, sweet
boy who totally loved his tractors, cowboys boots and his Woody doll. On Mother's
Day 2014 (5-11-2014) Hayden suffered a very sever Anoxic Brain Injury after
slipping on the pool steps and slamming his left temple causing him to lose
consciousness and slip into the water while, I (his mother) was fixing the hole
in his inner tube. I was only away from him for about 2 minutes but that's all
it took for his heart to stop and for him to die. I rushed to his blue, lifeless
body and pulled him from the water and started CPR. It took the doctors
approximately 30 minutes to get his heart restarted. We where
transferred to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. Hayden spent his
first 2 weeks in a medically induced coma and the first week of that was spent
on a cooling pad to try reducing the amount of swelling in his brain.

On June 24, 2014 Hayden went into surgery for a trachea and a gj-tube. One
week later he was transferred from the hospital to a children's rehab nursing
home where he spent the next 6 weeks until we could work out all the details to
move him to Tennessee. During that time Hayden had really sever neuro storming
and a massive increase in seizures. He also got pneumonia twice.

In the year he has been home he has battled seizures, stomach bleeding, sever impaction and pneumonia. We have had to put him on the Ketogenic Diet and also have a VNS (vagal nerve stimulator) placed in hopes of finally get the seizures under control. He is now completely off his vent and breathing 100% on his own. He is also now getting all of his feedings through his g-tube instead of his j-tube.
