Christian's Story
Christian was a micro-preemie born at 24 weeks gestation. He was 1 pound 0.9 ounces and 11 inches long. He was born with an infection called Strep B, which he contracted from a routine ultrasound. Neither his twin or I had the infection. He was very sick, and the doctors almost couldn't save him at birth because his airway was too little for the breathing tube. He was placed on a breathing machine. During his 5 month NICU stay he had 3 infections ... one urinary and pneumonia twice. He had bilateral grade 1 brain bleeds and ROP.
Christian came home in May 2013 on oxygen and a pulse ox monitor. He started vomiting several times a day. We were told he had reflux. He continued to vomit for several months. He also had pneumonia 2 times in 4 months. A second opinion for his vomiting revealed he was failure to thrive. He was 14 month's old and weighed 14 pounds. He had a EGD 3 days after his first appointment with the new doctor and it was confirmed he has Eosinophilic Esophagitis and silent aspiration. Christian had a gastric tube placed into his stomach. He currently drinks some of his formula and we are trying different foods to make sure he isn't allergic to them. He has to have an EGD after each new food to check for inflammation and eosinophils.
In 2014 Christian started having sever episodes of pain with urination. He was diagnosed with kidney stones and has had 3 surgeries to remove stones. He is no longer growing stones at this time. He has frequent kidney ultrasounds to check for growth.
Christian started walking just before his 3rd birthday. He has cognitive delays stemming from his brain bleeds. He has sensory processing disorder and is very sensitive to loud noises and lights. He goes to Early childhood intervention for therapies 4 days a week. He has nonstop energy and a bright smile.
