May 2026 - Dylan had come down with a cold and could not turn around, I wanted blood work done so after school I took him to urgent care to get checked up and a blood draw. The next day while Dylan was at school and I was working, the urgent care doctor called and said the lab called him and his critical labs came back extremely low. To go pick him up and head to Mott Children's Hospital ER and he would call for them to expect us. Everything was a blur, I couldn't give a report to my coworkers, I just told them I had to go get Dylan and go to the ER.  

I called the school saying I need to get Dylan, his labs are really bad, we have to go to the ER. The teacher brought him down and said he was upset when she said I was coming but was okay at the moment. We got to the ER and they drew new labs to make sure it was not an error and the Oncology doctor was in our ER room within the first 30 minutes after getting there. This is truly not comforting and the dread just builds inside you. The test came back that Dylan had Leukemia, not sure the kind yet but he would be getting admitted, getting blood, blood products and getting treatment started.  

Dylan spent the next 6 days in the hospital getting fluids, blood, testing, new medications and how to take them. Spinal taps every week for the next 6 weeks, infusions, PICC lines and then a port. Every week we go to get his treatment - some weeks are better than others for him, but some have come with fevers after which means trips to the ER, admissions, and waiting on lab work. Over the holidays he will endure the hard months of treatment as the doctor said, and we are praying that he stays strong and we don't have any complications. But as we all know we never know and have to keep hoping for the best and enjoy the days as they come.
