Mia's Journey

Our sweet Mia’s journey began in early June 2025, when we noticed that her belly seemed a bit swollen. At first, we thought maybe it was just bloating or something minor. But as her belly continued to grow and became firmer, we knew something wasn’t right. After a few doctor visits and scans, we received the devastating news: Mia had a Wilms tumor, a type of kidney cancer that primarily affects children. She was diagnosed just a few weeks before her 5th birthday, and our world shifted instantly.

Since her diagnosis, Mia has undergone numerous tests, blood draws, imaging, and started chemotherapy right away. She’s had to face things no child should have to go through—weekly chemo treatments, hair loss, nausea, and now preparing for surgery to remove the tumor. Through it all, Mia has remained so strong and full of spirit. Even on the hardest days, she still manages to smile, laugh, and play. Her strength has truly been inspiring to everyone around her. We’ve had to cancel her birthday party and are currently in full isolation because she is immunocompromised and neutropenic—meaning her body has a very hard time fighting infections right now.

Despite everything, Mia continues to shine. She talks often about her dream trip to Disneyland and is already planning what she wants to wear when she gets to meet Stitch—her favorite character. She has a heart of gold, a bright imagination, and a bravery beyond her years. As her family, we are doing everything we can to keep her safe and strong. The support, love, and prayers we’ve received have meant the world. We are incredibly grateful to Love Quilts USA for bringing comfort and hope into Mia’s life during this tough journey.
