Maelan's Story
Maelan started running fevers at the age of 3. We were first seen at the Children's Hospital in 2011. At the age of 6(2013) Maelan had a gran-mal seizure last 8-9 hrs and was seizing for at least 24hrs. She spent 5 days on a ventilator, and a total of 1 month in the hospital. Since then she has faced multiple challenges. She has had multiple genetic tests done. She sees a Rheumatologist, Gastroenterologist, Neurologist, Genectics, Ophthalmologist. She is currently in 9th grade but is done school work at an 5th grade level in certain subjects. She really struggles with science and social studies. She has short term memory loss due to the brain injury sustained from the prolonged seizure. She always has a smile on her face and is an inspiration to all who meet her.
