Jacoby's Story
Jacoby was born a healthy child - or so it appeared. By the age of 4, we noticed changes in his behavior that led to the first misdiagnosis. Time went on and there were changes in his speech and ability to retain what he was learning. This began the journey to get a diagnosis. He has had muscle biopsies, MRI’s, EKG’s, EEG’s… the list goes on and on.
In February 2015, after almost 10 years of testing and several misdiagnoses, we got the devastating news. We were told he has Batten Disease, and there is no treatment or cure. We were to take him home and enjoy the time we have together.
Batten is a progressive disease usually diagnosed between the ages of 5 and 10. Life expectancy for those affected is late teens to early 20s. It's my goal in life to keep him as happy as possible for the rest of his days.
