Karson's Story

In May 2018, Karson started getting red spots all over his body and started bruising really easily. I scheduled a doctors appointment for June 1st. We were hesitant at first because he was literally covered in bruises and we didn't want anyone getting the wrong idea. But we were too concerned and had him seen.

The doctor thought maybe he just had a simple blood disorder and tried to keep us from worrying. She sent us to the hospital to get blood work to check everything out, and said we would go from there. We left and went to a family member's house where I received the call from his doctor telling us we needed to take Karson to Akron Children's hospital as soon as we could.

When we arrived at the hospital, they took us straight to the Hematology-Oncology floor. We started to really panic. They put us in a room and ran multiple test. His counts were through the roof. We knew it wasn't good. The next morning, June 2nd, Karson was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. They told us if a child gets cancer this is the best one to get. Great to hear but still ... our world turned up side down.

Multiple treatments, hospital visits and stays, lumbar punctures and medications galore since then. We are getting closer and closer everyday to beating this thing. He is such a strong little boy and handles everything so well.

"Karson was so excited when he saw his quilt Thank you all so very much!"
