Jada's Story
Jada went from a perfectly healthy kid to being hospitalized and in the space of 24 hours. Jada came home from her Kindergarten fundraiser day at school covered in petechia and bruises and with a firm distended abdomen. She was acting totally fine, high energy. As her mom, I knew something was wrong. We went to the ER and they did lots of blood tests, then they sent us to the Childrens Hospital where they repeated the blood tests. Within a couple hours we met Jada's Oncologist and got her official diagnosis ... Leukemia. We were shocked. That was January 17, 2020.
The next 24 hours were a total blur. She underwent her first procedure to place a PICC line, she received her first round of chemo and a lumbar puncture where she also received her second dose of chemo in her spine. Her oncologist was shocked that she was so active. Many children die with the numbers she came in with so her treatment started fast and hard. She's had some form of chemo every day since Whether it be an IV oral.
We feel so blessed to have our baby alive. She is responding well to treatment, and sassy as ever! She's had her second surgery to place a port to make administering chemo and other IV medications easier. She loves her nurses and doctors! The phase of treatment Jada is in requires lengthy hospital stays. She would love a special quilt to snuggle with.
"We are finally back out of the hospital again. Jada has been in and out for the last month. I wanted to send you some photos of Jada and her quilt. She absolutely adores it and loves to take it with her all over the house! Thank you so much! It’s such a sweet thing to see her all curled up in her Harry Potter quilt. Thank you!"
