Orion's Story

Orion was diagnosed with T-Cell ALL in early July 2018. We had just returned from a week long vacation in Boston. We received the diagnosis from our little local hospital, and were sent to a bigger, more specialized hospital in Portland, Maine. We were there for about a week and a half. During that stay Orion had his port placed and started chemo. It was hard being away from family and friends ... especially our youngest son. Since the initial hospitalization we have had lots of chemo and a few more hospital stays.

Our most recent hospital stay started with a fever. From there Orion stopped eating and was diagnosed with Pancreatitis. From the Pancreatitis he ended up getting fluid in and around his right lung and needed to have a chest tube placed to drain the fluid. The doctors also placed him on a feeding supplement (TPN) that went through his port so he was getting nutrients while he wasn't up to eating. That hospital stay was very long and trying. It lasted 3 weeks and we were at the hospital through Thanksgiving.

Orion is now in remission, but still has over 3 years of treatment left before he will be done. He has had countless bone marrow biopsies and spinal taps. He will have many more before treatment comes to an end. He started a really hard phase of treatment in late January. This phase will last two months and then he will go into maintenance. That phase should carry us through to the end of his treatments. He has been a very courageous boy through everything that he has been through so far!!
"Orion's quilt has far surpassed our expectations. It is absolutely amazing, and we all love it. Please thank everyone for us."
